Trust During Planting

Planting season is one of the greatest acts of faith a farmer will ever experience. Each spring, fields are prepared, equipment is readied, and seeds are carefully placed into the soil with hope for what is yet to come. Yet no farmer can control the weather, the timing of the rain, the late frost, or the unexpected challenges that arise along the way. Farming reminds us daily that while we are called to do the work, ultimately, God is the one who brings the growth.

There are seasons when the rains delay planting, when the ground stays too wet, or when uncertainty weighs heavily on our hearts. In those moments, discouragement can easily take root. But Scripture reminds us that our trust is not in perfect conditions it is in a faithful God.

In Ecclesiastes 11:4, we are told, “whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.” There is wisdom in continuing forward, even when circumstances feel uncertain. Farmers understand perseverance perhaps better than most. Seed by seed, acre by acre, they move ahead in faith.

Planting is also a powerful picture of hope. A seed buried in the ground may appear lifeless for a time, but beneath the surface, God is at work. In the same way, there are seasons in life where we may not immediately see results from our labour, prayers, or sacrifices. Yet God is still working in ways we cannot always see.

Galatians 6:9 encourages us:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

For farm families facing delayed planting, rising costs, difficult markets, or exhaustion after long days, this verse serves as a reminder to remain steadfast. The harvest does not come overnight. It requires patience, endurance, and trust.

As tractors roll across fields this spring, may every pass be a reminder that God remains faithful. He sees every challenge, every prayer spoken in the cab, and every worry carried into the field. While we cannot control the season, we can trust the One who controls all seasons.

May this planting season be filled not only with productive fields, but with renewed faith, peace, and the assurance that God will provide in His perfect timing.
