Spring is coming
April 17, 2025 | Simon DeBoer

Spring has sprung, though it may seem a little optimistic to say so, especially as I write this commentary. There's not only snow on the ground here, but this morning's temperature was -11°C.
However, spring is here, and the maple syrup season has ended—after a winter that will certainly be remembered. My heart goes out to all those who incurred property damage from the snow and ice storms that swept through our province. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones in all of this. It is a part of life that can hit us hard, but may you feel God's loving care during this time.
We can see His care all around us, in nature waking up again after winter. The grass turns green, trees begin to bud, snowdrops flower, and winter crops start to grow once more, picking up where they left off last fall.
One flower we see and hear about a lot during this time is the Easter Lily, a symbol very much associated with Christian Easter. We are deeply indebted to our older Jewish brothers and sisters in the faith, who have celebrated Passover for thousands of years. This year, Passover and Christian Easter in both the Western and Eastern churches all fall in the same week.
The Jewish tradition celebrates freedom from slavery, and as Christians, we also celebrate our freedom—the freedom from the slavery of sin, won for us by the redeeming blood of Christ, our Savior. By rising from the dead, He gave us new life, life in Christ.
It is our prayer that you have a very blessed Easter season. Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed
