Strengthening Communities: Addressing the Human Side in a Crisis
The purpose of the CFFO's annual Policy Tour is to learn about issues affecting farmers on the ground in order to inform our policy and program direction.
This winter, members across the province discussed how to build policy that better supports farm communities in a crisis. We wanted to look at ways to strengthen relationships, be it between employers and workers, between farm businesses and local consumers, or keeping community connections strong to support one another through challenging times.
This report focuses on four major issues for farmers and rural communities - rural internet, farm labour issues, local food systems, and mental health - to arrive at fourteen policy recommendations to improve resiliency in the industry and in rural communities.
