An Act to enact the Farmland Security Act, 2026 and to amend various Acts

Included in this legislation are sections dealing with, 

·        Improving Equity and Reducing Regulatory Burden of the Beef Cattle Marketing Act

·        Proposed amendments to the Veterinary Professionals Act

·        Farmland Security Act: a legislative framework to restrict foreign acquisition of Ontario farmland

As the busy spring planting season approaches for farmers and food producers, it seems our governments are getting that same feeling as well.

On Wednesday April 22, 2026, John Zekveld  on behalf of CFFO, attended an announcement at Queen's Park, from the Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agri-Business, the Honourable Trevor Jones. CFFO was pleased to be in attendance at this event, and John enjoyed his first trip to Queen’s Park. Other ag commodities and organizations were also in attendance for this announcement, among them there was a sense of excitement and  appreciation for what was being put forward by the government.

The announcement was for the Protecting Ontario’s Food Independence Act, 2026, Bill 109 -

 An Act to enact the Farmland Security Act, 2026 and to amend various Acts

Included in this legislation are sections dealing with,
