CFFO Agri-Day 2019

August 27 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

SOLD OUT!

This year, meet us in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

Enjoy a guided tour with fellow CFFO members, where you’ll meet some of the region’s most passionate beekeepers. Discover the rich history of bee farming in Ontario, tour local apiaries and meaderies, and—of course—taste some of Niagara’s famous food and drink. This fun-filled tour is for the whole family!

TOUR SITES:

Rosewood Estates Winery

The Roman family has three generations of experience in beekeeping and mead making, which began in Ukraine and continues here in Ontario. Rosewood Estates Winery uses pure, raw, unpasteurized honey to make award-winning meads—the most ancient of beverages. Tour Rosewood’s winery and meadery, peak at the bees, and experience the terroir of Rosewood Honey, all in the spectacular surroundings of the Beamsville Bench.

B-Y’s Honey Farm

Originally from Paraguay, CFFO member Ed Unger and his family own this 50-acre farm near Niagara-on -the-Lake. The Ungers are working hard to raise health honey bees for the betterment of our environment and future. Their goal is to make a difference in the honey bee population and provide natural honey products. Come tour the farm and learn more about beekeeping!

Charlie Bee Honey

Charlie Parker started beekeeping at age 13 with only a hive or two on his family’s property in Hamilton. Today, this multigenerational farm is one of the largest apiaries in Ontario—running almost 10,000 hives. On this tour, you’ll see one of the largest honey extraction lines in Canada and take away a souvenir: a jar of Charlie Bee’s own delicious local honey.

PRESENTATIONS:

Ontario Beekeepers Association

OBA President André Flys and Director Dennis Edell will offer an informative talk about bees and bee farming in Ontario. Learn the history of bee farming in the province, challenges the industry faces and opportunities they see in the future.

Niagara College Canada

Niagara College is working to meet the global demand for thousands of commercial beekeepers over the next decade. Learn about the college’s commercial beekeeping program and their holistic approach to agri-food. Then, join guests on a tour of the College’s apiary, greenhouse and brewery.
