CFFO AGRI-DAY 2018
October 16 @ 8:00 am - 3:30 pm
This year, meet us in Elora, then hop on the bus for guided tours of nearby OMAFRA-UGuelph Agricultural Research Stations. On October 16, you can expect an informative tour that will encompass major areas of agricultural research, as well as day-to-day management practices.
ELORA RESEARCH STATION – PLANT AGRICULTURE
Dr Bill Deen, University of Guelph, has been conducting research trials on crops in Elora for decades, including a tillage trial (est. 1976), a rotation trial (est. 1980), and a nitrogen in maize trial (est. 2008). Deen will host CFFO guests on-site to discuss his research and what it means for Ontario farms.
SOIL HEALTH INTERPRETIVE CENTRE
The Soil Health Interpretive Centre (SHIC) is a research site that doubles as a venue for raising awareness about soil health. CFFO guests will learn about the economic and environmental benefits of improved soil health, and tour the impressive equipment used by the centre’s researchers.
LIVESTOCK RESEARCH AND INNOVATION CENTRE – DAIRY FACILITY
This state-of-the-art, 175,000 square foot facility houses six hundred dairy cows and heifers, four milking systems, and a whole host of research and monitoring systems. On this tour, CFFO guests will learn more about current research to support the Canadian dairy sector and consumers.
