Director of Research & Policy

The Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario (CFFO) develops and advocates for sound social, economic, and environmental policy for all farmers, based on Christian stewardship principles. The CFFO is seeking full-time employment contingent on parental leave for the position of Director of Research & Policy. The successful candidate will lead CFFO policy development, liaise with stakeholders, and provide an authoritative voice on policy for the CFFO.

Start Date: August 2018

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead policy development for the organization
  • Conduct research necessary for effective policy development
  • Write official policy statements
  • Develop and implement, in coordination with other staff, strategies to realize social or legislative changes suggested in CFFO policy statements (including, but not limited to, presentations to farm groups, government agencies, elected officials, etc.)
  • Maintain open communication channels with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Represent the CFFO at related events
  • Assist in CFFO communications through writing commentaries, newsletter reports, etc., as needed
  • Engage CFFO Executive Board and other interested parties in the policy development process, providing expert assistance by offering concise summaries of discussion papers, legislative proposals, etc.
  • Lead select CFFO projects, such as working groups

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably in agriculture; agribusiness; economic development; economic policy; environmental policy; food, agricultural & resource economics; public policy; rural studies; or similar
  • Two years’ experience in an applied research or policy development environment preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong presentation skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Familiarity with and commitment to Christian principles
  • Analytical skills across a broad spectrum of agriculture-related policy issue
  • Training in economics an asset
